iPerf3 Cheat Sheet

iPerf3 is a command line tool to measure the achievable bandwidth on IP networks. It makes it easy to get an accurate count of bandwidth you can expect to see between two hosts on the internet.

Installing iPerf3


MacOS

brew install iperf3

Redhat/Centos/Fedora

sudo yum install iperf3

sudo dnf install iperf3

Ubuntu/Debian

sudo apt install iperf3

Command Examples


Start the Server

iperf3 -s

Connect to the server from the client and start a test

iperf3 -c 10.0.0.1

Use non-default port

By default iPerf3 uses port 5001, if you would like to specify a different port you can use the -p switch

iperf3 -s -p 9001

iperf3 -c 10.0.0.1 -p 9001
